How Do I Get a Copy of My Credit Report?

To order free copies of your credit report, go online to www.AnnualCreditReport.com or phone 877-322-8228.  It is also possible to get your credit score for free from www.mybankrate.com once each month.  This gives you a look at your credit information/report from TransUnion, one of the three national credit bureaus.  Other websites are widely advertised but there is usually a fee or some obligation to pay for credit monitoring service or other services that could result in a fee or a monthly charge.  You can also get your credit score for a fee; although recently I saw an advertisement for www.Freescore.com.  If you prefer, you can call any one or each of the three credit reporting agencies individually:  Equifax, 1-800-685-1111;  TransUnion, 1-800-916-8800; Experian, 1-888-682-7654.  Each individual is entitled to a free credit report once a year from each of the three credit reporting agencies.  This is a personal right; we cannot, nor can any other individual, get that free report; only you can get your own report for free.  However, the individual credit reporting agencies may require some membership or service possibly on a trial basis.  If you fail to cancel that membership or service, you will be billed a monthly fee.  These procedures may seem complicated and they can be.  If it will help you, ask us for a copy of a newspaper clipping that we have available that explains the details of obtaining a free credit report.

While many of our clients have credit challenges, we can only protect our business interests and the interests of the client if we know what each applicant’s credit history is.  Some credit files contain wrong information.  By going over the credit report with each client, we can identify wrong information and get that person on track to have his file corrected.  Wrong credit information can do you major harm financially and needs to be handled as a priority.  This is why FREE credit reports are made available.  It is very important for each adult to regularly review their own credit file.

Since we assist a significant number of our clients in becoming home owners, we can only do a good job in getting that tenant-buyer on a clear path to home ownership by knowing if there are credit issues that need to be dealt with.  Many credit problems can be fixed.  First, those issues have to be known.  This can only be done with a credit report in front of us.

Bottom Line:  Do not let completing a financial statement/rental application stand in the way of you becoming a home owner or living in a high quality rental.  The opportunity we are offering is often hard to come by in the Marion area; there is a limited number of good houses.  Rent-to-own/Lease with option to buy terms are not commonly available.  If living in a quality home and getting excellent service from the owners/managers is important to you, we would like to work with you.
